1951-ben a Pécsi Tudományegyetem egy karúvá válásával több kiszolgáló egységet, így a könyvtárat is kettéválasztottak. Ez a könyvtár működött ezután a Pécsi Tudományegyetemen, majd 1982-től a Janus Pannonius Tudományegyetemen, bővülve az új karok tematikájával, esetenként fiókkönyvtárakkal. A 2000-től az integrált Pécsi Tudományegyetem könyvtáraként működik tovább.
