Baross Gábor 1957-ben alapította az Egyetemi Koncertzenekart, amelynek haláláig, 2009-ig művészeti vezető karmestere volt. A Koncertzenekar 1971-ig szimfonikus zenekarként működött, majd 1972-ben vonós kamarazenekarrá alakult, amely zenei stílusának szükségszerű változását is jelentette. Az együttes repertoárján barokk, klasszikus és kortárs magyar szerzők művei egyaránt szerepelnek.
